Kits for Kids
Kits for
Kids is a co-operative project developed by 12 Public Libraries in Lee, Ogle
and Whiteside Counties. They were
developed through a grant from the Illinois State Library after these Libraries
decided that a co-operative effort would solve programming problems for
themselves and would them better serve the schools,
day care providers and home schools.
Each
library has developed three thematic kits; a pre-school level, an elementary
level and one devoted to an author.
Kits
contain books, videos, a notebook containing reproducibles, realia (games,
puppets, puzzles, etc.) to help develop the topic. Also, each kit contains a journal to record
classroom activities for sharing with other users. The purpose of each kit is to help children
acquire an enjoyment of reading, communication skills and/or expand a science or
history lesson. These kits are self-contained
in plastic tote boxes.
Contact the
library for information about borrowing once of these kits through interlibrary
loan.
